DNA fragmentation

Genetic information in the sperm head may be impaired even if the sperm does not have obvious damaged morphology or mobility. Oxidative stress results in fractions in the DNA molecule, which reduces the success rate of fertilization. Even if a damaged sperm fertilizes the egg, the embryo created is usually slower in dividing or possibly has a lower viability at advanced stages.

Using the Halosperm method, we are able to determine the percentage of sperm with DNA damage in the ejaculate. The amount of sperm with fragmented DNA should not exceed 30%. An increased value is an indication for the use of magnetic separation of sperm MACS (link to macs)
